Our Story

Lakeview Orchestra was founded in 2013 and rapidly established itself as one of the leading volunteer orchestras in the City of Chicago. The orchestra has been trumpeted as an “absolutely astonishing” ensemble (98.7 WFMT) and praised for “surprisingly strong and compelling” performances (Chicago Classical Review). Lakeview Orchestra performs seven concerts each year - more than any other volunteer orchestra in Chicago - at Nettelhorst School in the heart of Lakeview East. In 2016 the orchestra garnered an unprecedented three awards in a single year from the Illinois Council of Orchestras, including the prestigious Orchestra of the Year award. Lakeview Orchestra has collaborated with world-class artists such as Rachel Barton Pine, Andrew Staupe, and Peter Ferry. The orchestra has also partnered with many of Chicago's leading performing arts organizations including Ballet Chicago, 2nd Story, and the VOX3 Collective.

The mission of the Lakeview Orchestra is to: (1) engage, entertain, and educate audiences through symphonic music, (2) provide an opportunity for Chicago area musicians to develop and perform, and (3) strengthen the appreciation for and understanding of classical music in the Lake View community and beyond.
