WHAT’S INTERESTING ABOUT THIS CONCERT
Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev wrote Peter and the Wolf specifically to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra.
Ann James most recently appeared with the Lakeview Orchestra in 2018 when she narrated Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! An accomplished actor, Ann has appeared on stage at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and the Goodman Theatre, and on television in Better Call Saul (AMC) and Unsolved Mysteries (NBC).
French composer Paul Dukas’ most popular work is his The Sorcerer's Apprentice in part because of its inclusion in Disney’s Fantasia in 1940 (it’s the one with the dancing broomsticks). The piece is a musical depiction of a 1797 poem in which a sorcerer’s apprentice uses magic without being fully trained to control it, causing chaos!
John Williams, composer of dozens of hit film scores including Star Wars, was nominated for an Academy Award in 2004 for his score to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
