Silvestri: Suite from The Polar Express
Lakeview Orchestra will perform Silvestri’s Suite from The Polar Express on Tuesday, December 18th at 7:30PM at the Athenaeum Theatre.
The movie The Polar Express is a 2004 American 3D computer animated film based on the 1985 children's book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg, who also served as one of the executive producers on the film. Written, produced, and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film features human characters animated using live action motion capture animation.
The Suite from The Polar Express is a musical bouquet of four of the most memorable tunes from the Christmas-themed film starring Tom Hanks. They include “Believe” (which earned a Grammy in 2006), “The Polar Express”, “When Christmas Comes to Town,” and “Spirit of the Season.” The score, written by veteran film composer Alan Silvestri, features soaring, awe-inspiring melodies that aptly describe and encapsulate the story’s mythical journey to the North Pole. Our main character – who remains unnamed throughout the entire film – is a young boy who is steadily growing skeptical of the existence of Santa Claus. On the night of Christmas Eve, he is awoken by the arrival of the Polar Express, a steam locomotive, on the street outside his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His journey to the North Pole, during which he seeks to either confirm or repudiate the existence of Santa Claus, includes many characters and circumstances of imagination and wonder-- imagination and wonder that can be viewed only through the mind of a child.
